Celebrate ‘You’!

Celebrate ‘You’!
‘Life is like an ice cream which one has to enjoy before it melts’ ,say a lot of philosophical nerds. The reality is, it sucks…yet we luv it. There was a time when people knew when the day began and ended. But now, I can neither remember the beginning nor  the end of a day. It happens so quick that even before you realize that your eyes are still crusty from the sleep, your in office.
In a way that’s the beauty of media and TV. They never show whats the normal day of most of us are like. Coz that’s boring! We don’t want to see a guy getting up, going to work, taking the family our for a dinner bla bla… we like to watch the crazies! The unreal dramas, action, twists in tales… that’s what kept me thinking.
I thought may be am being so cynical, so I tried posing this question to some of my friends, family and few strangers. Simple question, “Are you happy?!” Trust me invariably the response I got was’of course am happy’. Huh! So I am being cynical… then I probe, how happy? Chorus answer I heard was “I have good job, I have a great family, I have a cool car”… Dude even I have those.
The thing is when you ask someone, ‘are you happy?’ the brain registers the word happy only and starts simulating the responses to suite that word, like google does. But the question actually is ‘are YOU happy? ‘ Now for all those reading this blog… just try doing this… Close your eye and take a deep breath…clear your head…completely!... No thoughts of work, family, duties, parents, nothing…  now its just you. Think of the last moment in your life when you felt happy, or atleast contended. Is there an image without any of the people whom I asked you to block your thoughts on?
I tried…nothing! It either had my friends or family or someone…. It was as if I was obliged to be happy with them. But then I tried thinking harder…gotcha! Few moments came screaming back to me from the past…when I tried on a saree for the first time and I loved the way I looked, the first time I tried swimming with my knees shaking but ended up having so much fun ( man I still can’t believe I learnt to swim…) the time when I listened to my most fav song and drifted into a world of dreams and imagination…
That’s when the startling thought struck me…. I am lost! Lost in the regular chores of life, work load, friends, family duties … felt like Spiderman caught in his own web… imagine if you were Spiderman.. would you go swinging from the top of the building only to save people from burning buildings ? you would take lot more swings just for the fun of it. But as we age, we don’t take time off to enjoy ourself…unwind from the routine…
I took a pact to make a conscious attempt to rediscover myself every now and then despite the madness of my regular routine… wouldn’t you wanna celebrate YOU?!
